Default Custom exhaust being built

So I'm having a pretty reputable shop build me a custom single exhaust that consists of the following:

Straight 3 inch stainless pipe with the proper bends. They said they ordered 2 45 degree bends and I forget how many feet of straight. Everything is vband. Downpipe->mid pipe and mid pipe->rear section. They need to cut off the current flange on the downpipe to weld on the vband flange. They are using a vibrant 12 inch long 3 inch diameter resonator in the mid pipe. Straight pipe out the rear at an angle with a slight turn down.

They quoted me at $900 for parts and labor. My question for you, is this a fair price?

Sounds a little high to be honest. I think at that price, you are better off looking at an HKS or Greddy single with proven results.

you're gonna be getting a full stainless steel exhaust system that is one off and custom made just for your s2k. ? how awesome does that get? curious about how it would sound. in terms of worth it? there are tons of shops out there that are doing slow in this crummy economy. shop around and see what they quote you!

It's pretty much the same price as a challenge 76ta-rm with their 3 inch test pipe. That is the look I'm going for, don't want a muffler at the bumper.

This shop is also tuning my car when the exhaust is done so it's a one stop shop.

I looked up the parts and it's about 500-550 for parts alone. The damn vband flange assemblies are 95 a piece.

It doesn't seem that high to me for a custom exhaust. The v-band flanges are definitely expensive, and hand fabrication is friggin' expensive! An off-the-shelf exhaust can be made so cheap these days ...

the challenge one is maybe $250 in parts. Their asking price of $800 is ridiculous when the R&C guys are making them for under $100 (although significantly of lesser quality, but still making the same power).

Parts:
5' section of stainless 3" straight pipe - $100 (probably could use less, but just in case)
vband clamp - $100 (or if you do a common 3 bolt flange, it's $30)
3" vibrant stainless steel resonator - $50
various exhaust hangers - $15.

Do the minor bends and viola.
or... make one of your own:

$20. Loud as balls though.

The OP obviously doesn't want a junk yard exhaust. He's getting TWO V-bands, mandrel bends, and all stainless steel. I would bet that the welds will also be TIG instead of MIG. If it's MIG, then I would say they are over-charging for labor.
