Rofl wow I just noticed that. Haven't driven the car in 5 months, that's probably why I didn't.

I like the idea too. I got carried away messing with this but what if you finished off the top near the engine with another sharpish edge to finish everything off?? the thin white piece near the engine if that makes sense.

It should not affect your engine temps. Air is being sucked out of the bottom when you are moving. Additionally, SFactor seemed to not have any issues with his (and his seemed about as restrictive as yours will be). However, I would ask him via PM for some info if you're worried. I am no engineer but I would think that because water does a substantially better job as moving heat; the radiator and water within the block does 90% of the cooling for your engine.

The ambient temperature of your engine bay may... not lower as fast (when sitting stationary). However the MAX temp should not be any higher due to this additional pieces of material.

I thought of one other additional piece you could add to this.
  • Add weatherstripping to any top edges so it sits flush and seals against the hood.
  • I used molding clay to estimate the shape of the hood when it's closed.

El-That rendering is great, thanks man. I like your idea for that lip to stick out towards the engine. I will add it to my prototype tomorrow.

Matt- That's great. Yeah that was my argument to my dad; that cold air will come up from underneath the motor. That's a good idea about the weatherstripping. It's probably a pain in the ass to do. I will try it when I get it back from my dads friend.

^^ actually Matt has a great idea if you don't add that lip do weatherstrip to deal that back portion off with the hood. Definitely post final product pics!

Well the hood isn't perfectly flat so I'm not sure if weather stripping will work too well. I will probably just add a 2" lip like you suggested; Least labor intensive and it will probably make it look cleaner (although so would weather stripping). Thanks for the input guys. I will post results as well as dimensions for you to make your own.

Nice man. I like that but I just wanted some more shielding from the engine.
