Default cutting my exhaust?

Ok so I've got this Tsudo n1 dual exhaust pretty much an exact replica of the Invidia v3. So I really am starting to like the way a single exhaust looks on our cars and was thinking about cutting mine.

I'm not really worried about performance gains and what not so I don't care about the 70mm to 60mm piping thing and I had an idea.

well our stock exhausts have the helmholtz resonators which is the pipe that sticks off the side. it is said to reduce drone which the tsudo has quite a bit of and I was wondering if anyone thought that cutting my exhaust like this and capping it off would act the same as the helmholtz on a stock exhaust? just to reduce drone

TIA
, Cody

Um...my vote would be to not do this. Just sell this exhaust if it's just an Invidia replica because that seems to be a popular choice among members. Buy a single exhaust made from the factory.

Agreed... sell it and get a true single. They can be had for cheap.

The idea seems like a good one, but idk if it would work out like you hope. It seems like the helmholtz resonators work because they are perpendicular to the main pipe. If you just hack off one of the mufflers and cap off a few inch long section then its just going to trap air. I doubt it would help with drone due to how sound waves work.

You won't notice much adding a helmholtz.

Add a Vibrant Resonator to the exhaust

you wont notice much adding a vibrant ultra quiet resonator either. might quiet it down a little, but my custom 70 drones like a motherfer with the said vibrant resonator. i have a feeling it's louder inside than outside. i'm going deaf and cops havent pulled me over for exhaust noise yet. my iphone says it's 110 db and the mic is clipping under full throttle @ 4000 rpm

i wanted to try the helmholtz resonator because using my iphone i found the drone frequency to be equal to about 133 hertz. using a proper length helmholtz, you might be able to cancel out some of that 133 hz drone, but the thing that's got me stumped right now is that the speed of sound needed in the calculation changes depending on the temperature of the air (exhaust gas).

i haven't had time to try it yet, but if you do let me know. capping it off you would have to cap it at the exactly calculated length, it can't just be some pipe sticking out.
