DIY Brake Caliper Painting
#21
I just use high temp silver paint for my civic calipers. I took them off. They look like they're brand new calipers. That's kinda the look I was going for.
Black/red/yellow/whatever else for stock calipers really isn't for me. Silver just looks like brand new OEM calipers.
My S2000 has never seen the snow, so the calipers aren't rusty and crappy looking lol. I'm going to do them silver over the summer, I think.
I have no idea how they will hold up to track abuse. I took my civic to the track once and the silver held up pretty well...but then again...I don't track the civic nearly as much or as hard as the S2000.

i did my front calipers in silver metallic with 3 coats of clear they look shiny and are easy to clean, i did my friends 09 si in lime green, he is slammed on work emotion bronze rims and night hawk black pearl color for car, looks pretty nice i only did his front so it looked like a big brake kit as opposed to all four which sometimes is just over kill

Great article.
Have been thinking of doing this myself and your complete instructions with pictures will now make it easier than ever - complete instructions take the unknown and most of the possible surprizes out of the equation. I think I might buy new calipers so that I don't have to pull it all apart first. They might come in a cleaner condition to start with, too?! Where did you get the line clamps from? I think Silverstone with Red/Black interior would go best with Red, a la Brembo!!!

Why did you take them off the car if you are going to use a paint brush? I used the same kit on my car but kept everything on the car. If I was gonna take the calipers off, i definitely would have used spray paint for a much nicer finish.
Also i didn't even mask anything up, just used a nice steady hand and only got a little paint not on the calipers.

Ya if I disassembled them like that I'd def have taken them to get powdercoated. That seems too difficult to me...I'd probably just paint them on the car. However, great writeup and thanks for the DIY. They look good...now you need to get rid of those old rusty rotors!
PS I like your prep work...is there something for the Dremel for sanding wheels? Say if you wanted to paint your wheels.

I did little more ..I took all calipers and carriers off, disassembled them, cleaned and polished casting and painted with VHT paint in a can (for up to 500c)....while i was at it added braided hoses and new rotors.

Almost 3yrs old thread... but since its been revived i might as well chime in. I dont think I would mind doing mine in Red to match the NFR or maybe gold. I think I have the gold VHT paint from when I did my other car.

BTW, thought Id chime in for longetivity since I completely forgot I made this thread.. I've done a multitude of track days with the G2 paint and race pads, and there have been zero paint chips on these calipers.
