Default Downforce Fender Cracking

Hey everyone

I have a fair of downforce front fenders, and the lip of my driver side has begun to crack. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this issue? I don't believe my car is rubbing currently.

its fiberglass, very prone to cracking if anything hits it at the right spot and right pressure.

Either there's a rubbing issue or the fender is being stressed from improperly mounting it. It is fiberglass so it won't handle being stressed like the steel fender well. I was impressed by the quality of the set I have as compared to every other fiberglass body piece I've handled. But it is still just fiberglass.

My guess is that your fender is twisted on the axis that would run from the headlight to the side marker and the lip you speak of is the most rigid part of the fender along that line so the cracking began there.

When you repair it, make sure you drill out both ends of the crack or it will come back.

The crack has not spread or gotten worse so I dont believe it's a rubbing issue, it could be a rock that hit at the wrong spot or stress crack as you guys mentioned, thanks for the advice!

I had those fenders on my car.. nothing but headaches. Fitment is great, but fiberglass is just so fragile. Biggest regret in terms of mods. Will not be putting them on my next S2k.

I had a J's Racing front half lip in FRP (fancy fiberglass). It was a cool, rare JDM piece but seemed so brittle. Got frustrated and sold it after several months. OEM body parts > aftermarket body parts... every time.

Somewhat related to subject, but, How do the ASM and Amuse frp bumpers hold up? They too are just fiberglass.

any pics of the damage? I've had mine since 2012 and been tracking since. They are extremely durable, I had the tire rub on the front and rear tabs and it barely did any damage, just minor s cracks in the paint. Those tabs were eventually cut off to avoid further damage. But yes they will develop minor stress crack from heavy track use in some spots but nothing major unless the tire completely smacks the fender. As far as other manufacturers J,s, asm or spoon the downforce are sturdier then those

the damage isnt anything serious, i think before i was running a tire that was too tall and ended up having the tire actually hit the lip of the fender which led to bad cracking and damage. Right now its just a small hairline crack and it hasnt gotten worse so it could be that the repair isnt as strong as the original which led to that
