Default FIPK and change in V-Tec point

Just wondering if this mod changes the v-tec point. It seems as though my V-tec point is only kicking in at 6200. Is this normal? I was just in my car and tested it out a few times and unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, v-tec is at 6200.

Can anyone comment on this?

at 6,500 rpm vtec is fully engaged.
a vafc or ecu with a tune can change your vtec point.

this may be a dumb question, but I have yet to learn what a vafc is?

Learning as I go as well...

A'PEXi has done it again with the release of the VTEC AFC (V-AFC), a piggyback fuel computer for VTEC engines. The V-AFC and the original Super AFC share similar fuel tuning capabilities with one big exception--changing the VTEC engagement point. The V-AFC is a very potent tuning weapon for enthusiasts utilizing performance camshafts in their VTEC engines. One of the common downfalls of VTEC performance camshafts is the dip in the powerband due to early engagement of the VTEC effect. By utilizing the V-AFC, you can eliminate the "dip" by engaging the VTEC later in the rpm, resulting in a smooth curve.

changing your intake will not change the VTEC engagement point

It WILL however exaggerate the sound, so maybe you're just hearing things more clearly than before.

Taken directly from the Apexi website:

Piggyback Fuel Computer with Integrated VTEC Controller

Modifies manifold pressure signal and alters VTEC engagement point on Honda VTEC engines; Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).

A'PEX introduces the first digital fuel computer that combines fuel computer functions with a VTEC engagement controller. The V-AFC features a user-definable, eight-point, adjustable fuel curve that can be set in 500 RPM increments. The range of fuel adjustment is +/- 50% at each of the user-defined setting points. The Fuel Adjustment function considers wide/narrow throttle and low/high camshaft settings, from which four different fuel maps are created (wide-low, wide-high, narrow-low, narrow-high). The integrated VTEC Controller adjusts the point at which the engine switches from the Lo to Hi cam during acceleration, as well as when the engine switches from the Hi to Lo cam during deceleration.

Due to the complexity of this product, A'PEX recommends having the V-AFC and other A'PEX electronics installed and tuned by authorized A'PEX Power Excel Shops.

ECU has full control of the vtec position, it is a static position (unlike i-vtec) where it will engage at 6,000 rpm based on oil pressure and Throttle position.

ie. If you mash your foot down when it hits 6,000 rpm (give or take a couple 100 rpm), it will engage vtec everytime.

There are devices like a Apexi vafc that can manipulate the timing but I wouldn't normally want to mess with that until you have the unit installed and behind a dyno with a professional doing the tuning with a Air fuel tester
