Thumbs up Freezing weather and hood dampers: problems?

I had been flirting with equipping my S2K with a pair of NRG or Password:JDM hood dampers. But when I mentioned it to my youngest son (age 30) and a few of his friends this evening they pounced. Seems several have had them and have had major problems. One guy said his ran $140 for his Sti and lasted about 6 months. Claimed the cold weather killed the hydraulics and he got nowhere with warranty replacement. Another had them on his ride and said basically the same thing. Bottom line is that they told me that I'd be wasting my money unless I wanted to regularly replace them.

I never heard of this before although frankly I never have had an interest in hood dampers before either which may account for this.

Any one here ever heard of these small dampers being sensitive to cold weather extremes?

Well I know cold weather does effect them. I have not personally had any hood dampers but the cold weather did effect my one for my eclipse gst rear hatch. Got much worse in the winter and I had to replace them but they had a good amount of use on them. I think if you get good quality ones you will have nothing to worry about. Don't see what is difference about them than a regular rear trunk damper things.
I hope they are wrong since I would really like to have them as wll shortly.

I put mine on in November and they worked fine through and after the cold weather.

I can't attest to the long term, but they better hold up or they are going right back to NRG.
