Default Gears..will they help in a roll race?

Hey guys, I know this topic has been gone over and over and over, but there are a few people that think gears will help just as well in a roll race as they do from a dig. I did a lot of research on gears and read more than once that gears are pretty much useless if your doing 30+ mph roll, and if you were to race a stock S with gears vs a bone stock S, the bone stock one will be right there with the one with gears. I'm having a hard time finding the threads I read this in, and already looked in the official gear thread and there is 1 post saying this same thing also. I remember there were a few people that explained why gears help a lot from a dig, but do not really help or actually hurts the performance from a roll. From what I found so far the one with gears will be in the powerband faster, but then again will shift sooner and the bone stock S will catch up during that shift, and so on.

I don't want to hear the "ohh gears will definetly be faster than one without them" comments, I want to hear from the people that can explain this for me, or has personal experience.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Then again whatever mods each of them have, and the driver can make a big impact. So that really doesnt prove that he pulled because of the gears.

If anyone can remember any other threads about gears and have an explination for this please post it up. I remember seeing more than 1 thread with a debate and they explained it really well of why it doesnt really do anything over a 30mph roll. I did a search and not to much came up about gears, and all the threads I looked through I couldnt find the explination I needed.

When I had 4.77's I felt in a highway pull they would hurt almost. Had to shift so much quicker that felt like I never had time to really start pulling. No technical data or facts but just how they felt for me. That was more from like a 60 roll I would say though. Lower speed like 20-40 they seemed to be quicker but again just how they "felt"

I have only gone from 60+ but I have been head to head with 4.56s and 4.77s. I have stock diff. Other mods on the cars were identical.

On the other hand, AP2 transmission in an AP1 beats me every time. This again is 60+ rolls through 3rd, 4th, and 5th..
