Maybe it's a better idea to keep it, remove the tumor to keep the filter uncovered for some noise, and make some DIY ducting for cool air supply.

Re-assembly would only take 5 mins whenever I feel like it

Honestly, it seems that you should sell the GruppeM and the Mugen ECU, then get an AEM EMS and an intake that fits your needs better. There's NO REASON to keep something that you could sell for a signficant amount of money if it isn't exactly what you want. The Mugen ECU just seems stupid with a 6K VTEC engagement. If you have a test pipe, you can get big gains by dropping VTEC down to 4K or lower.

It's more of a matter of throttle than RPM's for my Fujita.
So your VTEC is engaging at 3500 RPMs too?

You guys are right, an intake is an intake. This is until you factor in another variable; and EMS. Moding an s2k without one is just silly. Look at Gernby's testing of his PWJDM.

a friend of mine has an S which is decatted and with a full HKS exhaust.
not sure about the intake he's running.
but he has an apexi VAFC controller which he had set up on a dyno.
they found that the best vtec engagement point was about 5800 rpm.

so you're saying that this is incorrect? you can actually get GAINS with vtec @ 3500 rpm??

I'm sorry, I just can't see myself paying $2274 for that intake. Just not going to happen.

From what I've discovered through testing, the intake and exhaust make no difference in optimal VTEC engagement. Only the header, test pipe, and tune. If your friend had an ECU that would allow him to add fuel and ignition timing, he'd be rocking a much lower VTEC engagement.

All I can say is this, if you want power per dollar v2 end of story.

it's a PITA to install but it's been vetted against the Mugen intake and whopped it's ass with and without tuning.

One of the benefits of a company as large as AEM they buy copies of there competitors intakes to test and in that case used a friend of mines car who had the mugen intake and then ems to test.

If that means having to remove the front bumper then forget it. I had a hard time installing it when I changed to ap2, and I swore that I would remove it again!
Also I think it would tedious to remove the filter for cleaning / oiling

If he could adjust A/F and timing separately, then I'm sure the VTEC cross-over would be much lower.
