Default Gruppe M intake

Hi again

As stated previously I bought my car tastefully pre-modded by the previous owner.
One of the mods is a Gruppe-M carbon fibre intake, which I admit, looks great in the engine bay.

But I've always found it strange that it does not sound any special or throaty, like a stock S does with the filter cover removed.
I guess this is because the gruppe-m is not an open-filter design.

I really miss the great sound my friends' cars do with the cover removed .. So basically I was going to sell the Gruppe-M on ebay and buy a K&N FIPK kit instead.
This intake takes air from the same location as the Gruppe M, has a shield to reduce hot air from the engine, and is an open-filter design, confirmed by a lot of ppl here to make a great noise. Perfect!

But after seeing it on ebay, my friend Trip got all mad lol, and is calling me crazy selling a very expensive and efficient intake for a "cheapish" plasticky K&N intake.
He said that the Gruppe M intake is a perfect design and surely adds throttle response / torque to the engine; because due to the size of the intake, it always carries an amount of already-filtered air, ready for the engine to suck up immediately. I also remembered that the previous owner had said the exact same thing when I bought the car.

so the question is .. will i really notice a loss in power / torque / throttle response with the K&N FIPK? I am prepared to lose the bling to gain the noise .. but losing torque or throttle response is another thing!

thanks

It's an intake. You probably will not notice any significant difference.

how does your intake already have air filtered and stored? air is constantly moving. it just sit in a chamber and say hey ima chill until its my turn to get sucked in. i personally have the k&n and LOVE the sound.

LOLL!!!

I was referring to when the car is stationary. Say at the traffic lights. The intake contains about 4 litres of filtered air and 4 litres of unfiltered air. And the theory is that it is easier to just suck that up. But I dont know if its true or not.
I mean, while sucking up those 4 litres, the air still has to be replaced, so I doubt it makes a difference.

If you had an EMS, you wouldn't be making that statement.

I haven't seen any dyno's of this intake though, so IDK if it'll do anything or not.

Ok i'm sorry let me rephrase what I meant.

Your BUTT DYNO will most likely not feel the difference. I doubt you will be able to FEEL a 10 hp difference. but yes, on paper it will be different

Your man Trip is correct about the throttle response. Air boxes like the Gruppe M or PWJDM build up some positive air pressure when you completely lift off the throttle (like on an upshift) so when you hit the gas again there's a small boost effect. Probably not noticeable on the street but on a road circuit it probably helps, that's one reason Spoon, Mugen etc use closed air boxes.
