Like I said, you lose the pressurization effect. This helps bring in more air, and it smooths out the flow.

dont know bout pressurization effect? most aftermarket intakes dont have a box around them. only effect hes gonna have running without a lid is heat soak. you will get alot of hot air when taking off and driving behind cars/trucks.

Like some said earlier^^^ without the lid on you can actually lose power- even though it may sound better. The reason this is, is that without the lid you arent protected from the other things under the hood that are producing heat. Think of it this way the point of a coldair intake is to get the coldest possible air to the engine ( colder air = more power ) When you take your lid off you in a sense do the opposite and have therefore IMO created a warm air intake since you no longer have the lid protecting you from under hood temps; Which is exactly what you dont want.

Yup sure am I may lose a hp or two but it doesn't bother me, the way this car sounds stock is weak and this'll do until the CAI is in place. It can't hurt to much though because without the box you pretty much have a short ram system, ya know

And a lot of aftermarket systems do not give the benefit of pressurization. Physics FTW.

Do what you want, it's your car.

open air box = heat soak
gutted airbox = no venturi effect = less air rammed into filter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect
honda engineered and put those things there for a reason.

lol, I like how people mess around with the system that was there for a purpose just to get a louder effect.

With your butt dyno, it's basically the louder the faster. During summer on stop and go traffic, the heat soak will be noticeable.
