Gutted Airbox
what about running the lid off. but running a snorkel, maybe cutting the stock airbox lid in half so that it will not be as restricted. but keeping the 90 deg elbow part on the lid to direct the cool air flow from the snorkel right at the filter. could be the best of both worlds. have the nice intake sound with loud vtec pop. but not get that heat soak bogging. anyone thought of or tried this?
i have the oem airbox and whole lid with elbow still on it. with the resonator blocked off, baffle wall not cut, a snorkel and drilled 7 evenly spaced 21mm holes on the front side of the top lid. so you can see the filter. this way it is not as choked up with the lid on, still keeps a majority of the heat out and increases sound just a bit. while the snorkel keeps everything cool. my thinking was that while the holes may let some hot air in at a stop only, it will let in no where near as much heat as no lid on at all. and at even 5-10 mph the cool air from the snorkel will easily overcome any hot air coming in the holes i drilled....... just an experiment for now.........
