Hardtop latches..

Bumping this thread for a question...
I had a 04 silver s2k which I bought a used hardtop from, I never got any new strikers (the ones that are attached to the windshield area in your car), and it fit perfectly, no wind, no rattles... I just sold that car
Forward to now, I have a white 05 s2k and I just picked up another oem hardtop from another member. I did not get any new strikers but now when I put on the oem HT, there is a lot of noticeable rattle and wind when I go above 40MPH. I initially thought it was the latches, so I tried to swap my soft top latch with the hardtop latch... that made no difference and I also noticed the hardtop latches says on them FOR HARDTOP USE ONLY... doh... so now I'm stuck, is it the strikers that need replacing? The soft top that I have on now has no wind or rattles, so why would the hard top have it when its on the same strikers?

I didn't know they made hardtop latches. Anyone have any pics of them compared to the softly latches.

yeah they are definitely shorter, I don't think softop latches could fit very well on the hardtop due to the shape of the hardtop liner. Hardtop latches say "only for hardtop use" stamped into the backside of the metal, but you have to remove them to see that.
If you have the proper latches and strikers, you can tighten up the clamping force by removing the spacers from under the latches, and/or adding washers under the striker plates. You can also add sponge foam inside the latch to keep pressure on the closing part of the clamshell so it doesn't rattle up and down.
