Default Has anyone fixed a Rack and Pinion?

Hey guys,

I live in a country with no parts for the s2000, everything has to be ordered.
my rack has gone bad, a technician pulled it saying that water had gotten inside, and has rusted
the bearing and something that sends current to the eps (i beleive)

just wanted to know is there anyone that has fixed a rack because of rust.
would love to have it repaired untill i can get a new one.

thanks much.

I tore one down last month just to see if I could do the same. There is no way to change the bearings. They are pressed in before the magnet sleeve is welded in, and the other end is way inside under a few welds. Sorry.

Ok,
so sent my rack to be pulled, and this is the horror they found.
SG did you pull it down further than this?

i have sent it to another tech that is more electronically inclined as my motor brush also needs
repairing.

He is claiming to be able to fix it.
will update tomorrow.

here is mine...

... this is the result of buying a car that the previous owner doesnt change a simple steering boot.... sigh*

What boat was that tied to?

You can change the brush if that will do it. Just pop the weld of the pigtail and solder the new one in. Check the ball screw doesn't have any pits on the shaft. Degrease the hell out of it, and grease it wit EP. It's worth a shot.

Make sure that you have the tensioner loose when you install the TS. I broke the cage on the small bearing because of that. Good luck!

Torque sensor. It's what the steering shaft hooks to. Just draw a line across the big bolt and lock nut, and line them back up when you tighten it. The helms is overly complicated with its procedure.
