Default Headlight and tail light tint

I saw an S in person today with tinted covers on the headlights and tail lights which I personally thought looked great! I noticed that the headlight covers were less tinted in the center where the low and high beams are.

My question is, if I purchase covers that are completely the same darkness, will I notice my low and high beams to be significantly less bright? A little less bright? Or perhaps the same brightness? Thanks for your input!

Let me help you out. I installed these static cling covers, and they damaged the headlights. They cracked at the top of the housing. I have installed eyebrows to cover the damage. They are not worth it. I would leave the headlights and tail lights alone in my opinion. If you screw them up, they are expensive.

I was never a fan of these. I don't understand why so many people do this. But, to answer your question, I'd imagine brightness would be serverly diminished sorta like window tint.

Isn't it illegal in some states to not only have the headlights tinted but also the taillights?

From what I've read, they are not illegal in my state. However, the thought of damaging my lights scares me, also I don't want poor visibility at night either.

HS2K007, why do you think they damaged your headlights? Too much heat retained in the houseing? Moisture trapped? Thanks everyone.

I notice almost no usable visibility loss. Being lowered hurts my total visibility more than these do. I got them from someone on ebay.

Sweeeet, what about any cracking or damage to your headlights? Are these like snap on covers or do they have to be applied like a vinyl tint?

It was a vinyl thing. I used a hairdryer, soapy water, and a plastic scraper to apply them.

i did the same and during a car wash they lifted up and that is when I noticed the cracks. I think it was the heat and moisture that caused the small cracks. I have seen pics of others that had this problem. Some people install them and have no problems. New headlights are around 900.00, so I personaly would not risk this mod again. My experience with these. Like I said others have had no problems.

Looks mean, but like some other appearance mods, actual performance (in this case visibility) is compromised. In my town, they're also another excuse for the cops to stop you. It's a nice feature for a car show appearance though.
