Default heated seats - using hardtop defrost

Is there any issue with using the hardtop defrost power lead for heated seats?

Any idea what the fuse is rated for this lead? It seems like most are using accessory or always on. Most advise that using accessory with limit the amount of items they can power via cig lighter etc.

I don't understand why this lead is not the first to be tapped but assume there is a reason..

just use the ignition port in your fuse panel...it'll only come on if your car is turned on. this is how i have my heated seats wired in.

I remember seeing a couple of DIY threads floating around somewhere.

Enthralled: I didn't want to run power that far if I could help it as the heater control boxes are placed behind the seats. Most of the DIY threads tapped accessory power, it seemed the defrost would work better (for soft tops) as nothing else would be affected.

Bryan: that is a pimp idea! your car is F'ing tight as well

How hard is it to install the seat heater?
Does the leather come right off the seats?
I'd love to have it!

It is a pain in the ass but not 'hard' at all. I would suggest as a few others have to just cut the hog clips off and use zipties. Works just as well / I think a little tighter; saved a lot of time as well. I got the H3's from heatedseatkits.com. The size was perfect!

Took maybe 4 hours, 3.5 for the first seat and 30min for the second ;P. Worth the trouble even if it took twice as long, I have a very cold girlfriend and she loves em!

I ended up clipping into accessory power behind dirver's seat (white/red) as the defrost didn't seem to work even though it was providing switched 12v. The fuse didn't blow so I don't know what the issue was. I hope someone will chime.
