The blue bulbs still come out as yellow light since they are run at half power by the OEM DRL's on my 08 CR

just to clarify any confusion, 2006 and up USDM S2000's come with a daytime running light that uses the highbeam bulbs at half power
running an incandescent bulb at half power makes it look yellow orange. when run at full power it looks like any regular whitish-yellow high beam.

It appears any incandescent bulb run at half power, no matter if they are tinted blue or not, will still look yellow because of the natural color of the filament

There was a Forester behind me yesterday with his Halogen brights on in full sun. I wanted to punch the guy in the face, hard. It was obnoxious, distracting and dangerous. Standard HIDs put out about 3 times the light and have a more erratic light pattern since the reflector was not designed for them. They would be even worse. I vote that this is an absolutely awful idea and should be abandoned.

I thought they did just ban non-OEM HID's? for that very reason, that and well catching fire.

I just put in yellow high beams, so that at low wattage DRL, they look yellow instead of what ever the stock ones look like.
Do you have any pics/links of the yellow bulbs?

Has anyone run HID bulbs in the high beam bulb location?
I need to know if it gets too hot and would it melt the headlight housing?

I may have found the right ballasts that can handle hot starts
and can be flashed like incandescent bulbs

I was able to install HID's as high beams on my car although I did not achieve my goal to use them as DRL's

I got these Luminis G4 ballasts from Ebay. They are a new style that can be flashed

here is some guy strobing the HID lights and Luminis G4 ballasts on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-w99...layer_embedded
here is how small they are

I also got these x-clips to fit H1 bulbs on Ebay

you have to grind them down to make them fit. I used my Dremel tool

here they are installed

when you put the dust cover on there are some gaps

I used some DAP BlueStik reusable putty to seal everything water tight

no water getting inside the headlight

the power leads attach pretty flimsily as well

I used more blue putty to make the connections solid

I zipped tied the wires and tucked everything in. Can you see where I hid the ballast?

Drivers side

Passenger side HID bulb

Driver side HID bulb

here is HID high beam is 6000k super white color

compared to incandescent high beam which is still yellow

here are the lights on my beer pong table. you can clearly see the difference incandescent on the left, HID on the right

I haven't tested them out side yet but should be super bright.
Don't worry I'm only going to use them like regular high beams and not blind other people

I know this is a totally unnecessary mod but I never liked having yellow high beams
I just can't figure out how to run them as DRL's. Maybe I need a capacitor?

oh well...

The DRLs on the S2K just run the halogen high beams at a reduced wattage. You can't do this with HID bulbs so they are either going to be off or on. All you have done here is given yourself brighter yet improperly focused high beams. You might actually be giving yourself less visibility at night because the light cannot focus down the road as far because it is scattering all over the place, even though they are bright as hell now.

You did a clean install, however. I just don't see the point in this.

This is very cool - just what I'm interested in, but I was stumped by the x clips - do they all have a standard diameter or do I need to look at anything in particular when picking up some?

Would these work? They seem to have the shorter base already - http://www.ebay.com/itm/H1-HID-XENON...288a3e&vxp=mtr

Also, fwiw, high beams are all about scattering light "all over the place" - I've seen it in action in other S2000s and it does the trick - floods the path ahead with tons of bright light.

if you wanted "white" colored DRL's you should have went 8k bulbs or so. so when they are ran at half powered. they appear white.

or you can add resistors to the LED's

HID cant be ran at half power as far as i know. maybe its possible to make the DRL run at full?
