Honda S2000 and other Honda OEM knobs
I was wondering if Honda is like BMW where if the cars were in the same generation but different models, if a OEM shift knob would be interchangeable.
For example, I found this shift knob on amazon which is an OEM shift knob (Honda 08U92-S6M-200B) for a 2005 Honda Accord but a few reviews have s2000 owners supposedly putting these in their cars. But the shift knob that supposed to fit our car is the 08U92-S2A-100. The model code "100" shift knob is almost $80 more. I'm thinking of just getting the "200B" shift knob which is only $50. They look practically the same.
What's the difference except the obvious model code difference? Because as far as fitment, they both seem to fit, at least based on the reviews.

Just go with the Moddiction Anvil 2 Shift Knob.....about $70-75. I've owned my AP2 for 17 years with the OEM knob and switched over to the Anvil 2 last summer. Probably the best mod I've done on the car. The weight, height and feel is PERFECT. Probably more psychological than mechanical, but the transmission feels smooth as butter now.

So in layman terms, 08U92-S6M-200B should fit because it is that thread fit. But my only concern is, why do some websites say it doesn't fit the s2000? Do AP1 and AP2's have different thread fits? I noticed the reviews had 2007 and 2004 ap2 comments. And why is there a different model shift knob "100" model $80 more with the same thread fit?
I guess I'm just confused, I went through several websites that offer the 200B shift knob. Why does it say its only compatible with the honda accord if other honda models (like the s2000) have the 10x1.5 thread pattern? I'm not finding the connection how these websites are basing their "compatibility" basis on for these shift knobs?
Who decided if it were compatible or not? Its not like there is an official approval board or anything. Often vendors don't know much about the parts they sell or what they fit.
All ap1 & ap2 use the same thread, which is shared with every modern Honda (and likely every Honda ever made). There are only a handful of thread patterns used for shift knobs. So also shared with many other brands.
For something as simple as a shift knob, you don't gauge compatibility by make and model, but merely by thread. 10x1.5 is the only compatibility you need to worry about.

The 200B will fit your S2000.
Compatibility is based on form and function.
In this case...the 200B knob is different in appearance.
In easy terms..
It fits.
But will look different.

The "CR" shift knob with the yellow lettering is the exact same knob as the generic (Civic?) knob with red lettering -- got a different part number 'cuz the lettering colors are different.. Acura is a Honda so I'd expect knobs to be interchangeable.
