Default Honda s2000 power output

hey everyone, please copy and paste this link into your search engine....

http://www.autospeed.com/A_0911/cms/article.html

i purchased a 2002 s2000 with 41000km on it.

i put it on a dyno stock standard and it pulled 155rwhp.

according to this autospeed review, it is pretty good!

i have spoken to a few people and they think there is something wrong with my car.....

a stock s2k pulls 176kw = 236 HP

for a rear wheel drive car, people say you lose a little more than 1/3 of power.....

so if you divide 236 by 3 you get approx 78.67 HP loss by the time it hits the wheels....

according to the autospeed review, my car is on the money.....!

i have another thread about my skunk 2 exhaust.... near the end, a bloke claims that something is wrong with either the dyno or my car.... claiming a stock s2k should pull 190-200 rwhp.

is this true?

between AUS and the US...... is there is difference in dyno's???

can someone read this autospeed review and let me know...

can someone help?

thanks

155rwhp is pretty low wont lie. Theres no way that drivetrain parasitic loss is 33%. If i recall correctly it should be around 15% loss.. you'r numbers should be about 180-190 rwhp .

ok but how is it possible that a car only loses 36whp.... thats impossible...

no car does!
15% is really little loss.

here people say its normal!

and that car was tested on a dyno dynamics dyno... so was mine...

should i test it elsewhere??

it depends on how the dyno is calibrated. a dyno is supposed to be a tuning tool... not to define how much power it makes. you can't compare numers between 2 different dynos(even if they're both dyno dynamics). i'm sure your car is fine. check your compression if you want to be sure.

Dyno Dynamics units read hp/tq numbers ready a lot lower than DynoJet. Granted your numbers are still a bit low. do as suggested and check your compression if you're very worried about it.

Dyno numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. Just to reiterate what Mike21 has said, while some dyno calibraitons are better than others, a dyno should only be used a tuning tool to establish a baseline and measure performance gains.

If you want to feel better about your car and its HP rating, go search out a DynaPak. Lots of the guys in the FI forum love these things when they break the laws of thermodynamics and make 600+whp on 20 psi.

I've always used Dynojet as I've found their numbers to be the most consistent. If you take the SAE corrected values, you can, for the most part, compare them across Dynojets.

On a Dynojet, an AP1 should make 190-200 SAE corrected WHP and an AP2 making 200-210.

Check out my recent dyno on a Dynojet with a K&N FIPK intake an Skunk2 exhaust: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=798278

That article is very odd. All the number in it seem quite off from reality. I'm not quite sure what else to say...

RWD drivetrain loss is floating around 20%.

240hp * 20% = 48
240hp - 48hp = 192whp

You see most s2k's dyno in around 190-200whp depending on temperature, dyno, etc., so you can see the math makes sense
