Lightbulb How to install 06-09 rollhoops speakers to ap1

I recently purchased the 06 roll hoops and wanted to know how to connect the rear speakers to my current ap1 02? Want to do it right the first time. Any info or links would be appreciated. Also, I hear the stock speakers back there aren't great and if there are speaker upgrades, I'm open to opinions and suggestions

Those speakers were a dealer installed accessory on the 00-05 cars and I believe the wiring for them to connect to the factory stereo is already there.

Do a search for "rollhoop speakers" and you'll find dozens of install threads for pre-06 cars----many with pictures

one thing to keep in mind is you don't want to split the plastic on the rollhoop--- they're impossible to glue back together and look factory--only way to change out the rollhoops is to change out the entire assembly including the metal hoop inside the plastic by unbolting them from the car. (The plastic pieces are heat welded around the metal during assembly and aren't meant to ever be taken apart again) There's dozen of threads on this as well--I havent seen a thread in the past 10 years where someone was happy with the results when they tried to glue them back together after "splitting" thrm apart.

Modifry also used to sell rollhoop speakers but he no longer does--he has left the installation instructions on his site for folks who want to source their own speakers.

Were they really a dealer installed option from the dealer? I thought those years they had the headrest speakers which is a bit different from these. I just wanted to install these with my oem stereo and wanted a little advice on the wiring of the rear speakers and now they should be connected. My rollhoops now are split and that's why I upgraded.

Those will look good!

I think the wiring connectors are already in your car around where the wirong on the roll hoops will be when they're installed.

There's a bunch of pix of AP1s with folks installing the speakers.

Just out of curiosity, how much did those cost and where did you find them?
Take pictures of the install. Others, like me, might want to do that too.
You have good taste in cars!

I was about to purchase them new since it's very hard to find a clean set but luckily I found it from a guy parting out an 06 clean. I only paid 200 shipped and have yet to receive it but I should be receiving it this week hopefully. Once I get time to install, I will post pics and update this thread. If anyone else can chime in, I'd be very appreciative. Thank you for the kind words, I love this car and every mod gets lots of thought before purchasing and installing. Nice car, looks like you could be my twin in the future lol

Do you remember what they cost new?
Is there a market for the standard hoops?

Coming from someone who had these installed OEM (I have an '06), they're not worth having hooked up and completely screw up the sound stage (SQ is also garbage). Don't waste your money and effort installing these. If you want to have a good sounding stereo, install a good set of component speakers and power them with an amp. Done. I went that route. I initially tried to incorporate these rear rollhoop speakers but they sounded like garbage and ended up unhooking them as they just make things worse. With a good set of components and an amp powering them I get clean and loud music with the top down going 80+ mph. You absolutely do not need any kind of rear speakers in these cars. All it does is screw up the soundstage. Bad part about these rollhoop speakers is they are basically tweeters right next to your ears so they have very poor freq response and everything sounds way too bright.

They are like 170 new each side and that's not including the tweeter covers. The standard hoops are are the same price and I see them if then for sale so those are more likely to show up and for cheaper. @slowteg, I heard bad reviews on these but I wanted to give my car an upgraded look and have somewhat of better sound coming from the rear as it can get annoying having your music a little louder than you want to cruise. I will try to see how these sound and if they are as you say, then I'll have to come up with a solution to see if maybe they sell speakers for replacement. Prob not but anything is possible.
