Took the top off the airbox today as some of you had suggested doing to get a sample of what an aftermarket intake will sound like - WOW! How much louder is the K&N FIPK vs just removing the top?

Also - E-Bay ($217) and Amazon ($218) seem to be the best deals I can find on the K&N FIPK for the S2000 - is there anywhere else anyone has purchased cheaper? If anyone's looking to sell a used one please PM me.

 

its a lot louder. It surprised me a lot if you compare noise of no intake cover vs K&N fipk. You'll be wow'ed for prob 3 months and you'll get used to the loud intake by then.

 

my car came with the FIPK already installed so i was never able to compare it to stock... but i can say that the thing is noticeably loud and just screams at WOT

hes talking about the top off of the stock air box.. i think they would sound alike

 

The fipk is louder and I think has a better whooshing sound. It seems to be louder on ap2s over ap1s as well, from what I have heard.

 

I have never had the oem airbox taken off while it was on my S and i recently got a FIPK, but i would think the FIPK produces a different sound (deeper) rather than just taking off the airbox. As for loudness all i can say the fipk really opens up at WOT and is pretty loud.

 

I have the FIPK as well! Unfortunatly it isn't louder than my 3" Megan single

 

Awesome! Can't wait to order this thing. I had a Cobb SRI on my MazdaSpeed3 and the turbo and BPV sounds that thing made audible were awesome. Sounds like the S2000 will be the same! Really motivates you to haul ass to get that engine growl.

Any thoughts on ordering a K&N from somewhere better than Amazon/E-bay? I would like to support a sponsor if the price was similar.

 

It wasn't louder than my HKS 75mm with Hytech 3" test-pipe ether
