Default How to remove only the softtop motor?

Hi,

I've searched for a while. It was mentioned several times people have removed the motor and kept the actual top, but I couldn't find any threads talking about how to actually remove the motor, seperating it from the softtop frame. It was said in one thread that the motor + top is one unit, and that comment confused me a bit.

My car already has all the covers and plastics removed, so I can access the motor easily. But I'm just afraid of removing it and not being able to put it back.

1. Can anyone tell me how to remove it safely?--would it be a pain to put back afterwards?
2. Is the top hard to fold up/down without the motor?
3. Driving with the top down, would it flap in the wind without the motor?

Thanks!

Just curious, but why would you want to do this?

Not sure on the actual process of removal, but I'm pretty sure it would function just as any other manual soft-top would without the motors.

If you are doing this for weight reduction though, I've read that the total weight of the two motors combined is less than five pounds. Not really worth it, I'd rather skip lunch .

yeah to save weight.... 5lbs huh? well, i've done silly-er mods before for 5lbs (and more expensive). it all adds up.

I would have expected them to weight more than 5 lbs too.

Yeah I have a set at my house. They dont weigh much at all. They look like window motors (I think they are) But if you unbolt them you can use the top as a manual top.

hi... care to comment about how to take them off the car, and leave the top? is it hard? (no need to go into how to take off plastic--mine are all off. just how to detach the motors themselves. thanks!)

also, driving with the top down, with no motor, does the top flap around?--annoyingly?

thanks!
