I know I know another optima thread...
I put my optima yellow top in my car the second week i had it. Killed the origonal battery while sitting at a drive in movie theater and it wouldn't charge back up.
Bought my optima for 75 bucks or less (can't remember) at work as it was a year past date and sold as a used battery.
That was October 2009... and to this day the battery is still rolling solid.
Never fails to crank, wont die any time soon i don't think.
I check mine once a month at work and test my alternator.
It also sits for days on end sometimes.
Its only been cranked 3 times last month and worked perfect every time.
I would look at your setup of the relocation if its not in stock location...

A point made above was to try a ctek charger to recharge the Optima. The Optima charges differently than regular wet cel batteries and an old style charger will not correctly revive it. ctek is the best known modern chargers that specifically has a setting for Absorbed Gel Mat batteries; but, others will work. There is a special method the charger must do if the AGM battery voltage drops below a certain level. There is a Youtube video out there about it. I have yellow top and red top batteries in several vehicles without having had issues. I can't argue with the number of posts about them on the internet though. Then again, almost every wet cell battery recommended has people out there saying that that specific brand is crap also.
The AGM battery that has not gotten a bad rep is the Sears Die Hard Platinum made by the same manufacturer as the Odyssey ==> Enersys.
I will probably try them next time I am in the market for an AGM battery.

my yellow top started my car after sitting for a month in 20 degrees below freezing temps. My previous red tops also had no issues.
Follow your mechanic buddy's recommendations and clean up the terminals and use the dust caps.

I work at a sears auto, and while I don't own a s2k yet, I can tell you the optima battery manufacturing moved to china in the last 2 years. The die hard batteries are made by east penn, and the platinum is made by enersys, and both types are wonderful batteries in my opinion with a good warranty on them.
