Talking Invidia N1 with active silencers

I put on my Invidia exhaust this weekend.

I also put in my active silencers I bought off ebay. They're advertised as "automatic silencers". They're knockoffs of the Apexi Active Tail Silencer. But the Apexi version is way overpriced and they don't offer a 4" version for the N1 anyway. The knockoffs were $40 each including shipping.

I have to say I am pretty impressed. At "normal" throttle openings the exhaust is fairly quiet, but when I open it up it sounds off.

For comparison I tried it with no silencers and all I can say is holy crap. Definately too loud.

Then I tried the Invidia silencers. Still pretty loud with alot of drone. I expected them to be quieter...

Then back to the active silencers and the sound is just right. Quieter then the Invidia silencers until you step on it. And very little drone.

I did feel that the springs in the active silencers were a bit too stiff, so I cut off 1/2 coil on each one. Which isn't easy cause they're welded together and the spring is up inside so it took some creative work with the dremel to reach in there.

The car feels as strong with the active silencers as it does with no silencers, so the "active" part must be working.

There was a rattle because the silencers are slightly undersize for the N1 mufflers, so I wrapped the silencer in a piece of sheet aluminum so that the silencer fits snug. No more rattle.

I can't say I'm in love with the looks of the active silencers, but they're not bad.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the result.

Hey! This is very old thread, but anyways...

Tired of my Invidia N1 drone on my impreza wrx 2008 and yes, apexi doesn't make their expensive solution for 4 inch. So maybe you can say the model of these automatic silencer (or find it in your purchase history from ebay for october 2007)? Cant find these silencers with search engine for some reason.

Thanks a lot in advance!

For sake of future searchers: I'm going to purchase original 90mm APEXI ACTIVE TAIL SILENCER with 90 to 100 mm adapter from here: http://www.nengun.com/apexi/active-tail-silencer

Use it for several month: it's perfect - comfortable while cruising and still performant - loud - while boosing, thankfully without those thunder which is quite overkill for the city!
