They are most likely running rain gaurds for the J's Type-V hood when it is wet outside.

I think what you're trying to ask is:
" If it rains, will any water get into the ARC intake?"

I don't know the answer, but by the looks of it, I'll venture a guess as to "yes", unless you blocked off the inlets in the hood right over the intake itself.

I dont have ANY expierience with the arc intake but with common sense I think the water will collect after some while inside the aluminium box underneath the filter until it's full enough to actually be sucked in by the intake plenium, so i'd better check that up after a rainy day. I don't think you have some problem driving trough some light rain but better check the aluminium box afterwards to see if there is some "colected"water what soaked trough the intake..

you also could make a small ( 4-5mm ) hole at the lowest point of the aluminium box to let the water drip out what's collected..

Perhaps we should wait what the experts think of this

I would be very surprised if there wasn't a drain hole there already. For such an expensive piece, you would think they would include such a basic function?

If not, I guess it would depend on where you live. In NJ, every once in a while you will get VERY heavy rains. If there was no drain in the intake system, that entire box would fill up rather quickly. Just last Saturday, I was caught in a flash flood. Was driving through over a foot of water in my lowered S. Almost stopped, but made it through. Could barely even see ahead of you, there was so much rain. Luckily my intake is OEM.

I dont know how J's channels work, but the ASM hood with the channel would still let water get to the ARC intake. I have to clean the water stains of the arm section of the Mugen Style intake. I have see the Mugen Hood (similiar to J's) and it looked as though it might be a problem. Not 100% sure, but it looks like they would not be a good match in rainy situations

There was a small hole in the bottom of the arc box I had. The guy I bought it from had been using it with a mugen style hood which is alot like the j's hood. He had no problems with it.
