It looks fast too!
Very interesting. We'll chat via PM about it. Maybe we can work out a deal for some independent testing.
I don't do any recording with the top down. I put the top up, windows up, A/C on low, and turn the stereo off. I also use the same sections of road in order to keep road noise consistent.
I installed the OEM cat last night with the standard Q300 (without my mid-pipe), and tested it for drone at WOT and also at a cruise throttle. The results were similar to those from the HFC. However, I noticed that I made a mistake while processing some of the HFC recordings. I forgot to click on of the buttons, and the result was that the sound level for the cruise throttle plot was greatly overstated. I have fixed that for the plots below.
I've also included a screenshot of the application that I use to process the sound files. It doesn't look very "snazzy" on purpose, since I don't want to draw any attention if I run it at work. Anyway, the moment that I captured the screen shot below was right when drone was peaking at about 3500 RPMs, which is why the only sound you really see on the spectrum analyzer is at 112 Hz and 224 Hz. When drone is low, there would be many, many frequencies bouncing around.
BTW, there was virtually zero rasp with the OEM cat. Aside from the drone, I like the way it sounds.

First time I looked at this thread I wasnt really all that excited. Then I read everything and saw that you arent messing around!
HOLY CRAP this is amazing. Also, great idea with the vbands so it fits multiple exhausts. Keep up the great work. Potential customer if that is the route you choose to go.

I spent the evening (the WHOLE evening) adding sound deadening material to the inside of an expansion chamber, so that I can eliminate the rasp of the Q300. The final prototype that I built last year, and had on my car for ~15K miles had sound deadening material, but I hoped that this last design wouldn't need it. If I can't find a more efficient way of making the perforated megaphone, adding this to the production design will increase price significantly. If anyone has any ideas for making a cone our of a sheet of 16 gauge perforated stainless steel, please share!

I got my numbers by adding. 700 for invidia q300, 1200 for ems, 1000 for your pipe, 400 for tune, 100 for welding and install. That looks like 3400 to me, even without the ems its over 2g's. As far as the drone. I have the invidia N1 on my turbo car, and a 12in long 3in diameter resonator removed the drone from my exhaust. Maybe not on every car with every exhaust, but it does work. I think your pipe is a great idea if its coupled with an exhaust. Alone its just too expensive. Again, not bashing, just constructive criticism. For comparison's sake. I made 250hp over stock for 6000$ with my turbo kit. Thats 24$ per horsepower gained. If you figure a optimistic 30hp gain for your setup. Thats 109$ per horsepower gained.

Everyone keeps going on about the price, but think of all the header/exhausts products out there already for the s2k. Hytech, J's, Spoon, Mugen, Amuse etc. Any of these pieces is going to run you up and over the 1g mark. To get the pull potential of those parts youre going to need a tuning solution anyway, another 800-1100$ depending on if you buy the EMS new or used.
Gernby is providing a piece for those owners who already have a tuning solution or will definitely have one in the future. I can see this being popular for those who track their cars and arent looking for the "bling" factor of the brand name exhausts, but want the best performance to price ratio.
Gernby is a local member here in my area and I can say that he is putting 200% into this thing and isnt blowing smoke up anyones ass. For those of you who end up purchasing his product, you wont be disappointed.
i agree with you this is'nt a $50,000+ car lol shit you can get used pfab turbo kits (as well few others)for around $2000,3k being the higher end, and turbo will take that drone away. i would never spend $1000 for just that, i spent $1000 for a asura catback shipped and thats 3 inch drone wasnt bad and after ptuning turbo kit"what drone lol" but $100 per hp sounds like we talking about the wrong kind of car lol. anyways goodluck with sales, also at that price you should do a poll, see how many people are willing to buy at that price before you set yourself back on 20 units.
I also wouldn't consider the people that would buy a $2000 used turbo to be my target market. My target market is people like me, who would not be happy with any exhaust on the market today due to drone and poor performance.
This product isnt really marketed toward the FI crowd of s2ki. It been repeated countless that if you want easy horsepower then FI is the way to go. However, some people dont want the headache of EMS, tuning, and the maintenance that FI carries with it. In the NA subforum there's builds where owners drop large amounts of cash to keep the engine NA.
