Default magnaflow cat

My 07 needs a new cat, material inside is rattling around. Has anyone installed the magnaflow direct fit cat? Up here in Canada that's a $1200. hit for an oem replacement. Just wondering if it is truly a direct fit or does it require some welding? Any feedback would be appreciated.

They offer a direct fit cat as well as universals, I'm sure I seen it on their website a while back when I was looking for high flow cats. I think they were around $400 ?.

I'd recommend the Berk HFC if you want better flow with direct fitment, and it is about half the weight of stock, very affordable.

Lots of guys on the forums have used oem cats for sale for low cost, Honda's new price is crazy.

If you are not in Ontario, put a test pipe in. Cheaper and will never fail.

My car is completely stock, not looking for any performance upgrades. This will be the first non oem part I've considered installing. Just can't see paying the money Honda wants. The oem cat only lasted 75000km....

Test pipe isn't really a "performance" upgrade until you tune it. Test pipe is $100, your choice.

Have you checked your valve lash??

Get your valves checked for spec and adjusted if required, it's a known issue. Just throwing it out there as unburnt fuel might have caused your cat to heat up and melt. Either way 06+ valves are known to be to too tight from the factory (like border line disaster)

Your options are limited. Test pipe, Berk high flow 63mm cat, OEM.

Unfortunately I'm on Ontario! After reading all the posts on here, I think I will go with the Berk hfc. As well as soon as I get it out of storage I'll have the valves checked. Thanks for the info.

The Magnaflow direct fit cats look pretty decent for the money, they have a 48 state legal version and a 50 state legal version. The 48 state version seems to be more of a high flow design, where the 50 state is probably closer to OEM as it has to pass California's Nazi standards. The Berks are nice, but I know you mentioned wanting to stay close to stock. The Berks use a less dense cat brick that is not a true 3-way catalyst, hence the defouler being built into the 02 sensor port for extra protection against the dreaded CEL. I like them but you should know how they differ from an oem style cat.

The Berk HFC is nice for performance but it's not as effective as the oem cat, I need to drive my car pretty hard before it can pass the sniffer test.
