Default mishimoto install, confusion!

i knew this was for an ap1 but thought the fan switch threads were smaller than the ap2 sensor but the ap1 fan switch threads were actually bigger. the drain plug threads fit the ap2 sensor perfectly so i put the sensor in the drain plug and extended the wires to the sensor.

i start the car up no cel lights, temp gauge works fine and warms up to 7 bars (where it usually would be). i let it idle for at least 5 minutes waiting for the fan to kick on, it didnt. so i drove around for about 5 minutes pulling over numerous times, fan never kicked on. pulled back in the garage let it idle more gauge never got over 8 bars and fans never kicked on. i only extended the sensor wires, this couldnt mess the fans up right? power was disconnected when i did the work.

BUT, when i turned the A/C on both fans kick on. is this the same with all ap2's or s2000? any input please? how many bars are you guys getting on your ap2 before the fan kicks?

I have no idea how many bars are consider normal on AP2 cluster, but this is how i would go at finding the issue. Check the fan switch to make sure its functionally properly. Check the wire extensions you did(did you solder the wires or just tied together and taped them?).IF the fan switch is fine and the wiring is fine (no opens in either wire) check the radiator fan relay. The fact that your fans turn on when you engage the A/C, i would think the fans are fine. Good luck with your issue maybe the the new aluminum (i assume) radiator is just really really good at removing heat?

My money is on the extensions you did but thats my .02.

Nope.. this is normal. I didn't have to extend the wires for my koyo and it does the same thing. AND I'm using a j's fan switch, so it should turn on even faster than OEM. If you drive around "spiritedly" for a while it will turn on!

pretty sure most cars are pre-programmed to engage the rad fans a lot more often when the AC is engaged.

anybody know or can check your S for me please?

after i got back from work, the radiator fan still hadnt kicked on but was at normal operating temp. i turned my car off unplugged the sensor i had extended and fired it back up. i had a check engine light on then and the temp gauge still showed the temp at normal. im assuming that i would know if my car was overheating then even if my other sensor wasnt working. the extention is obviously good because the cell came on when it wasnt connected. i was wondering if the sensor being the the middle of the rad instead of the side would make a difference? idk i guess im fine because the car isnt going over 8 bars or right under or near half temp

I checked the fans, both of mine came on when A/C was engaged(car was less then one bar). Just as S2krazy2 said its normal so enjoy your effecient cooling system.

Wanna know how efficient my koyo is? My heater will not blow hot air while the car is idling! That is how cool it keeps things! Enjoy it man... it's better than the alternative.
