Default Mods worth it?

Late last year I bought a 2000 S2K with 4900 miles (not a typo). I am interested in some performance (mainly horsepower) mods -- not too interested in cosmetic, engine sound, and other non-performance upgrades.

After searching on this forum and other places, it seems like there are no "compelling" performance upgrades for under $1000 or, preferably, $500. So, for example, I had a Volvo 850R stock with 240HP and was able to get about 290HP for about $800 ($10/HP) with re-programmed engine control. My GMC Envoy got about 15HP and much better throttle response for about $150 ($10/HP) with re-programmed engine control.

So are there any modifications for under $500-$1000 that will yield another 20-30HP? Or is the S2K already so finely tuned that that's not in the cards? If not, that's fine -- the car is awesome as it is.

Thanks.

PS: I was going to upload some pictures to my album but the system gave me an error.

it's hard to get much more power out of our motors w/o spending a lot of money, ex. turbo/sc etc. i mean think about it, honda managed to get 240 bhp out a 2/2.2L...that's some serious factory tuning!

you might think about starting off w/ something like an intake. before i went sc, i had a fujita intake, and i loved the way it sounded. it just made vtec scream.

well, congrats w/ your recent purchase and enjoy; like you said it's an amazing car. be warned though, once you start down the modding path, you'll never stop. haha. and parts for this car are not cheap.

for a m06+ the hondata reflash is one of the best bang for the buck. 16 or 23 whp for

^^ the OP has a 2000MY.

I know you said cosmetic aren't what you are after, but the AP1 wheels are HEAVY. fins some wheels that are considerably lighter and you will be able to feel the difference. Unsprung weight reduction reaps big benefits + it continually repays you by putting more of the bolt-on products you buy's power to the ground.

Like someone said, any 1 modification besides Turbo/SC is not gonna do that much.
