FMU's will not pass NYS inspection is what i have been told by a couple very repubatable tuning shops.

I'll be straight with you. Without an EMS tune, you're not going to make enough with bolt ons to be worth your time or your money. You might make, at very best 10HP - and that will multiple thousands of dollars. You really don't have any good options at this point. There is nitrous - as mentioned - but I don't consider that a particularly good option given the risks vs benefits.

Sorry.

^ What risks are you taking with nitrous? There isn't really any more risks running a wet 75 shot than there is a supercharger kit.. I would actually consider my 75 shot safer than a basic supercharger without an EMS with all that I have with it (wideband, lean shut down switch, window switch, WOT switch, ect..) and i'll still be faster and make more torque than a basic supercharged S.

I'm a bit prejudiced against nitrous... I have just seen SO many things go wrong with these kits. And when something goes seriously wrong, you can pretty much kiss your engine goodbye. Even if everything goes perfectly, it's still expensive in the long run due to the up front costs + refilling the tank.

I see. I know things break, but most of these nitrous solenoids will last a very long time. That's really the main thing that can go wrong on a nitrous system and they are easily replaceable (other than broken lines and such but that's obvious). In most cases if one goes bad, the solenoid is stuck shut since they aren't open that long, and as long as you monitor your AFR's you will realize something isnt right before anything happens. If they are stuck open yes that can be really dangerous, but that is a pretty rare case. That's why I will be checking my solenoids often also to make sure they are in proper working order.

Ohh and really nitrous isn't that expensive unless you are literally spraying it every day. People are just crazy if they are going through a bottle every other week or something, you don't always need that extra power on the streets like that. Having a lot of power all the time will end up just breaking things, or getting you into trouble. That's why I like nitrous since I can have the reliability of NA, and have that extra power when needed. I obviously won't be using it in the winter and such, and already figured i'll be spending less than $400 a year on refills. Thats less than $35 a month, so it's nothing to really complain about. Peoples average cell phone bills cost double that a month.

Not arguing, just saying.

Bolt on comptech kit should be fine. If you have the money I would go for a supercharger. My friend passed in NJ with the bolt on comptech kit no problems.

I've seen more blown motors from cold air intakes than nitrous. Nitrous is air and fuel. No different than adding air and fuel any other way, be it supercharger, turbo, or anything else.

Advising someone not to use nitrous because you've seen it blow a motor is bad advise.

He just had his inspection done recently in NJ lol so I'm sure they do. NJ got rid of inspections for bikes or something like that I think though and might be removing part of the inspection process soon for cars.
