Default Mounting EK Fogs to AP1 Bumper Cleanly with Rivets

Hello.

Mounting EK Fog Covers to Bumper using Rivets

If you landed on this page you're probably curious about how to mount EK Fog covers to the AP1 bumper. The existing how-to posts doesn't really tell you how they mounted the fog covers to the bumper. I think if you read through the replies, you'll find that they used self-tapping screws. While that may work, screws don't look very clean and they can come off pretty easy with a little force. Instead of screws, I used rivets to hold the cover to the bumper. I didn't feel like making a post with a bunch of pictures, so I just made a video that explains what I did.

Switch Placement

Another thing I had a hard time finding was the placement of the switch. The EK Fog kits usually come with a giant rectangular switch. This switch really wont fit anywhere so you'll have to find a switch that will work for where you want to mount it. I don't use the defrost so I mounted it where the defrost switch would be. Below is a picture of the switch I used and how it looks mounted. Really any rocker switch will work. So just find one that you like that'll fit. Keep in mind that you don't want one that's too big or you'll end up drilling too much of the cover and it wont snap in. I got mine at autozone for like 6 bucks.

interesting, did that require you to increase the size of the cut out in the ap1 holes?

You won't necessarily have to cut more out in order to use rivets. Rivets are simply an alternative method to using screws to secure the covers to the bumper.

Kudos, Chanh55; that's one really clean installation. It's perhaps the best I've seen in 11 years on this forum.

I was thinking about doing this, but I just hate that the fog cover touches the front lip

This was also a concern of mine... I thought about shaving the lip down and sanding it so it looks clean. I bet it could be done easily. The only problem is when I cut the bumper, I cut too much and there's a gaping hole now so the front lip actually covers it. If you look closely enough at the picture, you can see the hole a little.
