Default mpg Performance Upgrades

Hello All,

Was wondering if there are any good upgrades out there that not only help with performance, but also mpg if driven in a civil manner. Car is a nice weather DD and casual autoX/track day. Currently all stock.

Thanks,
~David

Hi David,

I personally did all the following when I first bought my S from the car lot. Since then, I have had NO issues with low mpg ratings:

* Synthetic oils ( engine, trans and diff)
* Flushed coolant system (water wetter added)
* OEM Oil filter
* Iridium Plugs
* Valve adjustment
* Clutch adjustment
* Installed CAI

This should give you a good start on improving your mpg rating.

Note: On the trans and Diff fluids, the synthetic oil I chose (after research) was Red Line and it made a world of difference when shifting, especially in Reverse and First.

Good success with your S2K DD.

Shaving weight by removing the spare tire and tools are a quick and easy way to improve mpg, ever so slightly.

You can also opt for a single exhaust and a test pipe, which could shave off up to 50 lbs. depending on how much lighter the aftermarket exhaust is.

Other than that, making sure your car runs smoothly and efficiently would be the best ways to get the best mpg, as the above poster has already stated.

1. Weight reduction. This improves every performance aspect of the car.

2. test-pipe, EMS and a street tune. Run lean at cruising loads.

^^^ That's a bit expensive. 63mm testpipe, and K&N FiPK (or really any intake) should bring you to a reasonably lean level that would slightly increase mpg.

With my K&N fipk and test pipe I've averaged 29.3 mpg at 70/75ish on the interstate..

Which is a little more than 4mpg than what the AP2 is rated at from factory..

These are all really good ideas. How about any after market ECU's or chips?
