Default Mugen Intake, Header, Exhaust

Hi Guys,

Eventually I would like to get the Mugen Header, Intake, and Exhaust. With those three mods installed, is a tune necessary? What is the best method to tune the car with just those three items?

Thanks.

Do what you wish to make the car your own personal thing. I don't know if I were going to start fresh I would spend the kind of money neccessary to aquire the three items.

I was looking into mugen parts when I first bought my car. You can find, if you search this site and the web lots of info on different mugen pieces. For the header and the exhuast, the biggest benefit is that they decrease weight, and give you a little bling factor without a lot of noise. The intake looks neat but does not do much and there are look alike ones on EBAY for much cheaper than the real mugen.

I have the header, which I bought used and can't say that I noticed it does much except drop ten pounds, I use it on a supercharged car.

There are few articles out there about full Mugen cars that get quite a bit quicker than stock, but from reading all of the testimonials here and some old dyno's using the MUGEN ECU on mugen cars and stock cars, it sounds like 90% of the power you can get from fully Mugenizing your car comes from the ECU program itself. Meaning, IMHO, spending less than a grand on a EManage Ultimate and finding someone who can give it a good tune will net you nearly all the power you can get from buying about $6k in new mugen parts.

If you just like Mugen, go for it and you can always find used Mugen parts in the Marketplace section. The exhaust is great for weight loss and sound but really will not net you any power.

Have fun with the car.

The search button would help you alot man. It does not reqire a tune, but it will help alot to get all the power out of your bolt ons. It depends what year also. If you have a 00-05, a VAFC or Greddy E-manage would be good for the basics. If its an 06+, alot of people use the Hondata or Flashpro.

A retune is not necessary but might unlock a few additional hp. Not sure if it would be worth the cost of the tune, though. Three weeks later you would not know the difference.

Mugen exhaust is almost as heavy as the oem exhaust. Not much weight savings to be had there.

But Mugen stuff is really nice and fitment is first rate.

Given that he's going the mugen route, I don't think gains are his priority and I couldn't see going for an elaborate tune worth his money since gains don't seem to be the motivating factor here

if you are going all mugen, get their N1 ecu as well and you will be set.

the 2.2 Mugen header does make NA power link in sig.

The AP2 exhaust made less power than my modified OEM exhaust on my Roots supercharged car.
Boost pressure on the Mugen aP2 exhaust was also about .25psi to .5 psi higher indicating it was more restrictive then my modified OEM exhaust.

Mugen does concede that their cat back will not perform much better than OEM (info used to be in the old tech section on King's site) as the OEM is so well designed as far as flow. Mugen sought to reduce weight and improve under-car aerodynamics. It adds a subtle touch of bling too IMO.

But it sounds oh so nice. Mugen AP2 Exhaust I went from 197.4 to 204.7 back to back on a dyno dynamics on the same day.
