I don't think there will be as long as you dont toast it haha.

I've played around with shaping plexiglass a lot, and it seems to remain constant as long as you dont actually melt it
Nice

Looks like the 24"X48" on this site would suffice. Might be enough to make two. Comes in pre-dyed colors...

nice find but do any local stores sell this material (lowes or home depot)?

Some Home Depot carry large sheets of plastic, a friend of mine built a very nice splitter for his GTI and got everything from Home Depot, or at least most of it

I made splitters for Amuse lip after really chewing up the paint with the ground and pylons. I repainted the lip and bought ABS plastic from http://www.rplastics.com/abssheet.html

Since I made a small splitter/skid plate for each side, I didn't need a full 48x96 sheet. I bought 24x48 pieces, which were cheaper to ship too (anything larger needs a freight line: this size can go UPS). I ordered 3/16" and 1/4" material. The 1/4" stuff is overkill: I think it's bulletproof. I made mine from the 3/16" ABS sheet, but I think you can go down to 1/8" if needed. Anyone interested in a full car width splitter from ABS will need to cut from a 48x96 sheet. If you make lip splitters like Track Dog Racing, you can probably get 7-8 from a sheet. If you want to cover up the the radiator, you can probably only get 2 out of a sheet.

ABS will bend easy with a heat gun. Just soften it and it will take a set. I wouldn't use a torch for fear of bubbling. You can form neat bends with a standard sheet metal brake.

The photo is of an earlier design. My current one is more aggressive. I made templates out of cardboard and flipped it over to cut a mirror image. I scrape them on the ground all the time: they just grind away, and are easily replaced. I can get 3-4 splitter pairs from a 24x48 sheet. They also take the brunt of impact from pylons during Solo, and have greatly minimized paint damage this time around.

Downforce? I doubt it generates anything useful. Mine is for protection, and has been one of the smartest things I've done with the car.

Mike, there's a local plastic supply company in Baton Rouge that carries ABS. I didn't buy from them because I'd need a truck to get a 48x96 sheet home anyway. Ordering online was cheaper and had easier logistics.

Benson!

I figured you might chime in sooner or later! I'm sure these guys appreciate the info.

Hopefully I'll see you at Zephyrs this weekend.

Does this splitter outline the entire amuse lip or just the ends?

Did you just screww it into to the lip itself?

I am making a set of extension pieces to move the wing up so it sits in a area that is more effective for down force on hi speed tracks 100+mph

In its low position that you see now there is a good balance between down force and drag for speeds in the 80mph range.

Also right not it balances down force form to rear with the angle I have on my lip splitter.

In my mind a critical thing is maintaining equal down force front to rear especially if your car has been corner balanced and drives through corners flat and neutral.

Just the ends of the lip: the design of the Amuse doesn't really allow you to "bridge" them without a gap tot he body work. Even if you extend it back to the undertray, it would be an inch short (story of my life). The photo isn't very good because the shadow makes it look like there's a center section. I'll try to take a close-up of the current shape.

Yes, they just bolt up underneath. I put them head-up, so the bolts extend downward for easy splitter removal or adjusting. I oversized the drill holes on the splitter, so they have some adjustment range, making it easier to get the right position. The bolts themselves are the first thing to touch (besides the leading edge of the splitter), so they are also sacrificial. On my shorter tires, I'd skim them on the ground under braking.

Just $89, but I think 1/8" is a little thin. It just bolts up to the existing bumper fasteners. I doubt it would be hard to make splitters for the OEM lips and AP2.

A 24x48 sheet of 3/16 ABS sheet is about $40 plus shipping.
A 48x96 of the same thickness is about $90, plus shipping. You would need this size to cut something like Track Dog's, but you'd get 3-4 splitters from one sheet.

I used a side-cutting bit for my Dremel, then ground it down to the final shape with a barrel sander. Because the Amuse-style splitter is a mirror image pair, i bolted them together for final shaping.

Mike, the ABS comes in white too
