My soft top install/interior revival thread...
I purchased this car 2 weeks ago. Its an early VIN S2000 and has been auto-xed for most of its life. She was not maintianed very well as far as cleaning of interior, carpets etc. Also. the plastic window is all messed up and top has a few rips and such.
So, I decided to take the car apart, clean her up real good and chronicle my soft top install and interior fix-ups here. Hope it serves some purpose to others who go down this path.
I also have some n00bish questions which I wouldnt mind help with, so if you could indulge that would be great...
05/23/09 thru 05/25/2009
- I took the interior apart piece by peice and cleaned all the trim before storing them in the spare bedroom.
- I found a few broken pieces along the way namely, the drivers side kick panel and the passengers side dash piece (where the knees go). I am actively looking for used pieces.
- Passengers side vent was also broken. I am looking for a new piece.
- The drivers side carpet is worn and has a few holes. Floor mats are worn thru as well. I hope to find some nice red carpet used to throw in the car. If you have any for sale, PM me please.
- I shampooed the carpets and floor mats. Also, rear trunk panelling and cleaned back sides to remove all dust.
- I found a no. of broken clips, missing screws and such all along the way which will also need replaced. These are from stereo installs etc.
- I removed all speaker wiring to rear that was run
I will use handa and slhonda to cross reference part no's and post them up here for others who do this.
- Bought an 05 Rear compartment with screen on ebay and awaiting its arrival.
- The car had a tire tail installed to carry wheels to and from track. The place that installed this years ago did not quite install the bolts well. It went thru sound deadening at bottom which was all cracked and the bottom of wheel well showed signs of rust. I took off as much of the sound deadening as I could (the seam sealer crap was much harder to take off) and I then sanded and used POR-15 to coat the trunk cavity.
- Also, removed sound deadening on both sides of the trunk and the 2 pieces behind driver and passenger sides. I used dry ice, chisel and hammer and goof off to remove the rest. Honda seems to have randomly used seam sealer which is harder to remove.
- Rear tray insulation was all worn and flaking. Got wet I am guessing, I am cleaning it all off
Question # 1 - Can I remove insulation mat over the fuel pump area?
Question #2 - I am yet to remove the sound deadening on the two humps on each side behind the driver and passengers side as they are impossible to get to. When I remove the worn out top, I will access those pieces and get them off. Anyone have advice on removing these, please holler.
Pics to come. I will post tonight!

I ordered a robbins top from topsonline. I got a 10% discount and free shipping (thanks, S2ki) and it should be here soon. Talk to Seta, she is friendly and very helpful and answered all my questions.
Have a call/email to Jeff (hardtopguy) to order the type A install kit per Rick's suggestion so I can fix brushes which are worn thin as well as the front strikers which are worn bad since air and water leaks in...

Question # 1 - Can I remove insulation mat over the fuel pump area?
if you want to you can. It is just there to deaden the sound. My track car is noisy as I have no insolation in the car at all.
Question #2 - Dry ice worked for me too. Also there is a bunch in the trunk under the liner too.
I hear every rock my tires pick up.

#2 - I removed all the sound deadening in the trunk area namley, the 3 pieces in the cavity, the 2 pieces on each side by the tailights, the 2 flat pieces over the fuel pump area. All I have left is the deadening above the 2 humps right bedhind driver and passengers side headrests. This is mainly an auto-x car but I want it looking nice for sunday drives and photoshoots...
I also removed some from the tunnel areas - square looking (like dynamat) on each side. I didnt remove the rest, but will do so when I replace the carpet, I lost the motivation...
5/27/09 - Placed order with hardtopguy.com - Jeff called me back to let me know that I don't need the full hardtop install kit.
Jeff is sending me just the parts I need.
I do need some help on a few parts I cannot seem to find on the majestic honda site...
I am looking for the brushes at the bottom for the soft top. It seems rivetted to a plastic piece. I believe that I need the new plastic pieces as well. Can someone help me with finding these parts...I must be daft and blind
Thanks!

Well, I asked Jeff and he said he would just send me the brushes if he had any laying around.
Strangely, my pieces don't seem to have these brushes on the outer trim, but on the inside.
I need to take some pics coz even I don't make sense to myself!

Updates:
I ordered the mcmaster carr barrels today as per cyclon36's thread to avoid using rivets...Will post pics of this install
This is the thread where the parts are mentioned...
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=448840&st=0
Also, almost forgot - was at walmart last night and picked up 2 sheets of sticky flet to help address the arms of the top frame which cause excessive rubbing and slow wear of the top. I may try to sand these down as well to reduce any sharp edges.
- The top should be here next monday or tuesday.
- My ebay rear compartment with screen should be here monday as well.
- I placed a big order with majestic to replace several interior parts, clips etc.
- I bought an used center console from HornyPhil since mine is worn.
- I havent heard back fro HTG on my parts order.
