MY00 AP1 Swaybars question
Hello All, I have a MY00 AP1 and really love the car. I have the UK alignment in the car but besides that it is all stock. I don't plan on coilovers or lowering springs I intend to keep the car stock.
I understand that the early MY had a much larger swaybar in the rear then in the front and that over the years they slowly revised that. Making the front swaybar larger then the rear to make the car want to understeer a bit more.
I have read that a good remedy to "fix" or help plant the rear of the car more is to put a MY06 OEM rear swaybar on the car. The MY06 swaybar is lighter then the MY00 and will "settle" the rear of the car and give it a little more balance.
Onto my questions. First do you agree with this line of thinking? If not why? If so then do you think the solution will work with the spring rates in a MY00. I understand that these things work togehter and that changing one component we upset the entire system.
Thanks all.
Kevin

I don't claim to be an expert, but in my understanding, the overall handling is the combination of the bars, springs, and shocks. The whole picture needs to be taken into consideration.
Yes, the bars have changed over the years, but at the same time, so have the spring rates.
OEM Spring rates by year (front/rear)
MY00-01 = 218/291
MY02-03 = 240/230
MY04-07 = 256/207
MY08-UP = 274/225
MY08 CR = 375/264
Just changing out the sway bar for an 06 won't make your car feel like an 06. However, it would be easy to find a pair of 06 springs, with so many people using aftermarket ones. I'd even consider looking at a CR bars and springs.

My intention is not to get the car to feel like a MY06. But if I can make the car more stable with a relatively simple change then I would consider it.
This is why I posted up for others opinions on this.
Thanks.
