Need some advice re: coilovers
Well, I'm from the land of low taxes, shitty schools and even shittier roads. But lots of cops in fancy new cruisers and lots of churches.
I guess you get what you (don't) pay for. Texas. Yee-haw.
*Ahem*, anyway, I'm running JIC FLTA2's and they are wonderful for the track as they are very communicative. But what they mainly do is communicate our lovely lack of infrastructure here in po-dunk Wichita Falls.
In other words, they're beating my ass to death.
That being the case, does anyone have *personal* experience with a similar quality coilover that has softer spring rates? I'm not real interested in hearsay, so if you haven't ridden in an S2000 with the JIC's and then something else, I'd appreciate your letting those (few) who have speak first.

I had the same coilover on my Camry (FLTA2) and the rough ride is not due to spring rate but more to do with the awefull valving.
Now I know it's not the same car but it is an experience I had with those coilovers.
I have SRC's with 16K springs and I think that is smoother than my Camry was.

ive ridden on the JIC's, Tein Flex, Megan street, Megan Track, Arogosta(spelling?), T1R, and Mugen...
The softest was prob the JIC's actually... so im not much help!
Oh and try driving on these shitty roads with these damn Megan Tracks... freaking sucks.

Hehe...I guess you saw where I finally got the car supercharged. Maybe that's the problem - I seem to be driving a lot faster lately
Yeah i saw lol.. im just saying out of all the coilovers ive been on the JIC's are the softest so far.. doesnt mean they are bad, just that i dont know what could be any softer!

Good point. The car is so wonderful when the roads are OK. But my old WRX was so much better on typical Texas roads. I miss that ability to just chuck the car into the turn. With this car, I have to be very precise and smooth which is good practice and all, but also kinda nerve-wracking at times.

Oh yeah, nature of the beast! You have to be REALLY sure and smooth with what your doing.. this car is very twitchy so if youre all over the place with your steering corrections etc it will really show! (i have the broken rim to prove it!)...
That said, if you want we can swap rims and see how you like the 17's... I always wanted to know what the works looked like anyway

Tires are always a big factor in ride quality... when I switched from Hankook RS2's to Bridgestone RE01-R's I noticed a significant difference in the cars ride. It felt much stiffer and harsher than with the RS2's and their wimpy sidewalls.
With that said, an often overlooked suspension setup is Koni yellows and the springs of your choice. They are very capable on the track with a properly matched spring rate and can be forgiving for street use as well.

I know on my T1R coilovers I am able to go up in spring rate, and I am sure you could probably go down a bit on the JIC's.
Seattle has pretty crappy roads up here, and the tracks are just as bad. The T1R's come with 12/12K and I should be upgrading soon to 16/14 or somewhere in that area to compensate for track use.
I would check into some SWIFT springs and go down a few hundred pounds to suit your handling needs. You can buy them from AJR or Evasive. You just need to measure your ID and then find out the exactly length of your spring. You can also veiw all the spring rates offered by swift at their homepage.
