Default New S2000 Owner looking for advice!

Hey Guys!

I just got my S2000 about a week ago, and it's better then I ever could have imagined! It was my uncles previously, and I have been able to drive it for the past couple years, so I'm a new owner - but somewhat familiar to the S2000. I've posted a couple threads on here, (Regarding brake jobs, and even some modifications like lowering), and have received a lot of help and great responses, which I really appreciate!

I had a couple questions about modifications, and wondered what your opinions were on them. I have owned cars previously, and joined enthusiast forums, and I always hate it when you get that one new member who posts a thread, before even doing some simple searching. I really hope that I'm not doing that, and have done mutiple searches - and found a lot of answers to my questions! So if I'm posting a obvious question, please send me a link to the thread that answers it.

Anyways, so I'm looking at doing some simple, tasteful, modifications to my S2000. One of the things I hope to do when the time comes (Meaning, when my current tires need replaced) is switch to CR Wheels + Tires. Which, with the added rear tread, should positively affect my handling.

But until then, I'm wondering what are the best modifications to do. I'm on a tight budget, but I don't mind saving as long as I need to, in order to get a quality, recommended part.

Currently I'm looking at exhaust......A simple search brought up a thread that contained practically every exhaust setup for the S2000. However, it seems to have left me more confused then before! I looked at the Invidia system, but it seems to be a little louder then I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that will still allow me listen to the radio on the interstate with the top down, but when you get the RPM's high, lets you know it's something special, and turns a couple heads. Also, (and this is just an observation from youtube videos, so I could be WAYY off) the Invidia setup sounded to much like the classic 'ricer' setup that I hear on two many civics around here. I want something that sounds a little deeper, and doesn't neccesarily sound like a small 4cyl. Also, I KNOW that I want a dual setup, not a single. I've seen a couple setups that have silencers. Which would allow it to be quite when I want to to, and loud when I choose for it to be. Does anyone have any more info on that? For instance, like how long it takes to remove/insert the silencer? Lastly, I usually consider the point of most modifications to add performance/horsepower, so I'm also interested in which setup has the most Horsepower gain.

What else are good first modifications? I know headers often fit this question, but exhaust systems seem to add up, and should I not spend $1,000+ if later down the road I want to upgrade to possibly a turbo?

Also, lightweight pulleys and flywheels get mentioned, but some people seem to question the long-term reliabilty or safety of these. And I love my S, and admire Honda's reliability, so I don't want to upgrade to something that may affect that.

Let me know all your thoughts and opinions, or other modifications I need to consider! Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

1. Invidia is definetly not "ricer" sounding, i have gotten countless comments on the sound and appearance of my invidia and test pipe

2. There are no N/A mods really worth a whole lot of money, you wont gain any hardly noticeable gains from anything except F/I

3. good job searching before asking questions, thats new for most new people on here

Barret4bama, Please don't take offence to what I said about the Invidia setup. As I said, I have never seen one in person, and was just making an assessment of low quality youtube videos I was watching. Though could you tell me a little more about your opinion on it? Do you ever find it to loud? Do you feel as if there is any performance gain over the stock setup? Is the Invidia setup much lighter over stock, weight wise? And lasty, if you don't mind me asking, how much does the cost of the setup usually run?

Dang, I was hoping that there might be a couple ways to get the S2000 to around 300HP without having to go to Forced Induction. Turbo's and Superchargers are pretty high priced. Looks like I have some reading to do on people's setups!

Invidia is way too loud for my taste. I wouldn't call it rice but it's just extremely obnoxious. I have a tanabe concept g and love it. It's dual, aggressive yet never obnoxious. Purrs down low and screams up top.

FI is pricey but NA even more so.

No, there's no way your going to get 300hp with na mods, only way is fi, and invidia is lighter then the stock exhaust, i don't think there is any gains, but it feels faster when i hit vtec, also it is very loud especially when it's top up it feels like a plane, my ears get plugged all the time, but i cut out the resonator too so i don't know. You can find cheap used invidia here on the for sale section i got mine for 300 it was barely used.

Tight budget + Quality + Power does not mix on this car. Don't listen when people say you can't get good gains with boltons, you just won't do it for cheap. The invidia q300 sounds good, it's louder then some but you can definitely still hear music over it.

p.s. What model year is yours?

o i didnt take offense, no worries. The invidia is very loud BUT i love it, its fun and you really get used to it after a while and cruising on the highway i can still hear my radio, but not while accelerating haha. I love scaring the piss out of people when your cruising and just floor it, it gets super loud and they jump sometimes haha. Mine with all of it new was 575 shipped for the exhaust and 100 for the test pipe. Used is the way to go exhaust wise.

Save your $ for now. Enjoy the car as it is, and when you have $4k saved up and more experience behind the wheel of the S, boost it!

What do you mean NA is more expensive? I'm assuming you're saying that doing modifications in the long run to a naturally aspirated S2000 will cost more then just going to Forced induction? Haha, again, I apologize for all the 'Newbie' questions.
