Default noob ? about bolt ons and tuning

i remember reading threads about ap2s running very lean with bolt ons but cant find them. i have an 05 with an injen cai, berk 60mm tp, and now have a spugen 70mm single on the way. im currently using the stock header. i realize there would be benefits if i got a tune but will there be any harm in waiting?

I'd imagine without a header you should be ok. A ecu reset should be a fine interim step without worry about your cars health. But you cant say no to tuning :]

That's what I was thinking there will definately be a tune when the header comes. I've also heard that the vafc is fine for ap1 since it can only subtract fuel and the ap1s run rich but for an ap2 I would need something like a greddy e-manage ultimate. Anyone have input on this? Also if going with a emu what extras would I need like jumper harnesses or anything that doesn't come with the greddy. Open to suggestions, don't have to tune with greddy if there's something better/easier/cheaper.

Just installed my wideband last week on my 05 AP2 with intake, test pipe, and single exhaust. A/F stayed right around 12.5 under vtec and spiked at 13.5 during vtec engagement then fell back down to 12.5 to 12.8.

^That is weird why it is that lean NA. Doesn't seem normal to me. When I was NA with exhaust, test pipe, intake my afr's were dead set at 12.5 WOT

The '06+ AP2's run crazy lean even when stock. My brother's totally stock '06 spikes into the 14's at VTEC. I'm not sure about the '04-'05 AP2's.

An ECU reset doesn't do much of anything unless you recently changed from crappy gas to good gas. The long term fuel trim will adjust for new bolt-ons in probably 30 minutes of driving.

I hear what you're saying. The only real benefit is to clear up old info that the ecu could reference. It's nothing major, but it's still a good thing to do to smoothen things out a bit.

You're going to want to switch up to a 70mm test pipe so everything is the same size. 60mm is almost .5" less in diameter than your exhaust.
