No. I don't think it's a very good idea to do this. Aside from obvious safty issues, I would think there would be some unnatural forces placed on the front latch's. Placing the top on the car to drive it carefully to the shop is one thing and probably OK, but other than that, no way I'd be driving without all the necessary hardware.
