Default OEM hardtop hardware kit help !

Hi,

I found an oem hardtop that I want to get. The oem hardtop is coming off a 2002 s2000. I have a 2005 s2000. The seller is only selling the hardtop, however if i want the hardware kit, the dealer is charging $260 to remove the oem hardware stuff off the seller's car.

Question 1: From my online searches, it seems like the the hardware kit should fit all models. Am I correct on this?

Q2: Am I better off paying the extra $260 to remove the old oem hardware kit or just buy new aftermarket ones?

Q3: is there anything that I should look out for when buying used hardtop hardware kit?

Thanks in advanced!

yes the hardware will work with all years
the 260 is rip off to remove it,...it will only take like 5 minutes of your time to do....remove plastic panels behind seats, remove like 4 bolts from each hardtop catcher and its done.
aftermarket hardware is not worth doing on an oem top...not even sure how it attaches to an oem top actually
you can usually find the oem hardware for sale here, just keep a look out.

like what he said, i would just remove the hardware myself, its very easy.

aftermarket hardware does work on oem hardtop.

if you really dont know how to remove it,

the catchers alone are about 300-400 used (500ish new)

If they will give them to you as long as you pay labor I would do it. 260 is a great deal for oem hardware. If they plan to charge you for the part along with labor than that changes the deal. But yes, that labor charge is ridiculous, seeings as they only have to remove the female part of the catcher from the car, the rest should already be bolted to the hardtop.

You excessive use of the work "like" implies to me that you are estimating the time. If you can remove ALL of the OEM hardtop hardware in 300 seconds, you're incredible. It takes that much time to remove the paneling, then more to remove ALL the hardware (strikers, as well as rear catchers). Don't forget the time to re-install and leave it like you found it.

I'd budget 30 minutes to remove, more if it's your first time.

This not true, many aftermarket hardware kits work with the OEM top. In fact the Mugen and OEM tops all use the hardware mounting points (replica's and genuine)

Now to the OP, I'd pay the $260 for OEM hardware, or do some research and show up with the time and tools to do it yourself. You'll need to know the process anyways for installation on your own car.

Use this as reference to get the hardware that you need from the seller's car. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/410...-installation/
