There are no aftermarket headlights here in germany that are TUV proven, therefore street legal.
Many years ago, i read some brake pad advertising in US motorcycle magazines that stated "Approved by TUV Germany" in big letters.
I wonder why the manufacturers of the aftermarekt lights just dont let them get tested by TUV Germany, if (!) their products are so good and high quality...
I would think that a certification "tested by TUV germany" would also be a strong advertising and selling point worldwide.

Because it costs money to get certifications, and most people won't care. If they sell a sufficient number of products (to people that only care about the bottom line cost) without certification, there is little incentive for a vendor to pursue it.

Not to mention most aftermarket products would need quality improvements and engineering costs just to be able to pass.

Its already a small market. Not that many S2000's compared to mainstream cars. Trying to fill the niche of owners of such small volume cars willing to pay for quality, but hesitant to pay dealer prices, seems like a losing financial decision.

Even more reason just to buy second hand OEM headlights.

Buy a set in decent condition + refinishing the housing lens seems like a win, win.

@ Car Analogy: You are right. Most people today can´t tell the difference in Quality between aftermarkert and OEM parts and only choose by lowest price. Sadly.
This is O.K. for simple parts, but not the best thing when it comes to expensive parts that also concern safety.
