People generally use 1.75-2" DOM .120 wall tubing for cages. It needs to be rotary draw bent too. Look into the JD squared tube bender for this.
Thanks for all the opinions and great information everyone, hopefully i can make this happen.
Summary:
Well i have finally found a supplier for the tubing, the company where i work deals with them a lot thankfully. The price is $3 per foot. I havent taken any measurements or anything but i am thinking i will probably need somewhere around 20 Feet. So we will say somewhere around
$75 in just the tubing alone. The mounting brackets will be lasered out of 3/16" thick plate, which wont be more than $25. As far as forming the tube i have to go investigate our pipe bender to see if we have the correct tools to work with this size pipe. Hopefully i will be able to use it. My buddy at work offered to fit and weld it for free as long as i am there to help, although i will be paying him whether he likes it or not.
Conclusion:
If i can get this thing made for no more than $300 i really think i might go through with it. The SCCA approved hard dog is $690 brand new. I have not done any shopping around for used ones yet which will be one thing i do before throwing some money away. I will be purchasing a hard top next month which is when i will be gutting the soft top motors and be able to take some dimensions for the bar. We will see how many times my mind changes during this time period lol
Thanks for the interest everyone.
