Default One Scary Wrapped Header

Well about one month ago I got the notion to upgrade my exhaust. I decided to go with the HKS Hi-Power Dual set up.

First I wanted to stick with a exhaust dual set up. Second, the HKS has a fantastic sound. And third, it is a great value.

The knucklehead that previously owned my car welded his header to the his high flow cat. It looked like junk. So I picked up another stock header, Berk Test Pipe, and the HKS exhaust.

Since I'm supercharged, heat bog has always been an issue that I battle-especially at auto crosses and on hot summer days. I thought I would give Thermo-Tec header wrap a whirl. It took me two hours to wrap my header. I then sprayed the silicone heat treatment on it. It is also supposed to protect it from fluid damage.

I finally got some time this evening to finish up this project by getting everything installed. I couln't wait to start the car to hear how it sounded. I hop in, start it up, and within 30 seceonds my garage is filled with smoke. The silicone spray was buring off the header wrap! It took about 15 minutes for it to stop smoking. No one warned me about this. I was kind of nervous at first, LOL. It has kind of turned the wrap a bluish/brown.

I am very impressed with the tone of the HKS set-up and would recommend it to anyone whose main motive is aesthetics and not power.

yah that smoke is ok. even if it "burns off" it still served its purpose and left soem residue on there.

bondobuilder...i should have mentioned that when i talked to you...by car smoked for a good 20-30 mins after i did mine, and the odor was rank! But after a day of driving it was all good, nothing to worry about! Once i get my testpipe and 70mm asm exhaust im going to wrap it all, i think....wouldnt hurt...i dont think?

I think you can see the aftercooler in my signature.

It does its job, but I notice that if I'm in a lot of traffic on a hot day, or if I'm waiting in the line-up at an auto cross, the car bogs at about 5000 rpm's.

Although this was before I changed the supercharger pulley back to stock.

I really like the way the wrap looks too

Sounds like a plan to me...I would leave the muffler unwrapped. It will probably look better.
