The only problem is that you will not be able to stop the top when it is going down. It is either open or close that's it. You could use the e-brake being off to stop the top but it is a ground switch. And just putting the e-brake down without having it connected to the relay will cause the top to go down as soon as the e-brake is back on.
Yeah my post was pure speculation. However I'm unsure why you would stop it midway going down? You could put in an extra interrupt - like moving the roof button forwards.

So you would have the ebrake up, tap roof switch back, have it latch have a NC contact from the roof moving forward and an additional sensor for when it's completely down.

It definitely is not too difficult. If it was solely on a PLC I'd have it done in 5 minutes

And the same for forwards, but with a different relay possibly? I'd have to play with it.

i'm willing to bet you can rewire the convertible top motor cct to be run w/ a DEI window module...

i have an extra one but i wouldn't dare try this mod because i have a plastic rear window that sometimes require attention while putting the top down.

it's faster to take the motor out.

this way, u can just unlock the top and unfold it manually,
when u need it up, just reach back with your left arm and pull the soft top up.

takes less than 3 seconds

Haha, you could buy a $75 PLC

I'm sure it could be wired not too horribly with relays. Maybe if I'm bored I'll build one after I graduate.

I'm going to agree with turbo_slug on this. I would bet money I could get a DEI window module (or in this case, the module used on sunroofs) to operate the top. The sunroof module will "one touch" operate one motor in two directions. As far as Gigdy's concern, the module will stop the motor, if needed, if you push the switch a second time while the motor is operating. Also, the modules have resistance limits so, if set up correctly, the module should stop moving the top when it is fully open or closed. Seeing as the car is away for the winter, perhaps I will tackle this and post the results.

On this solution.

It's been awhile since I played around with DEI products but the module in question was a 529T. The 530T was a two motor module and could probably be used as well.
