painting valve cover...special clear and paint?
hi
my oem RED PAINT On the valve cover starting to pull off.
so i would like to paint it.
so what i will do is..
Sandblast the covers
paint it in blue or teal..
Clear...
but my question is..
do i need a heat resistant paint?
Do i need a special clearcoat?
i dont not want the paint pull off again...

Yes

Valve covers typically don't get quite as hot as other parts of the motor but it will certainly be to your benefit to use a high-temp paint such as a ceramic, and a matching clear, since your average clear will have a tendency to yellow. As long as you can find it in a color you like Duplicolor has a great range of high-temp ceramic spray paints. I've had great luck with them before and would have no problem doing a valve cover with it.

I actually just used some normal spray paint on mine, primed it, shot a couple coats of the base black, then shot it with an automotive clear coat. I also painted my spark plug cover the same color as my car. I havent had any peeling yet or anything and its been like that for 6 months.

I was watching speed vision the other day and they were painting some v8 valve covers on one of those DIY type of shows. VHT makes some high temp paint that wrinkles just like oem, not sure on the color selection but it is worth checking out.

Its an RM Racing intake. They went out of business a while back. Everyone says its a bad intake to have due to heat soak but I havent had any problems with it. I wanted it more for looks anyways!
