How does this work?
If you order a part $500.00 or more, and it is found to be out of stock through multiple distributors. Identified then as special order, do you pay 100% up front hoping they get it to you as promised?
My thoughts are take a deposit on the order, then collect the balance when order is complete with a tracking number.

Depends on th store. Many places will require 100% up front for a special order item. Have to asks the store you are ordering from.

 

good bit of the time if its a long wait time like special order from japan they will take a deposit and the rest upon shipment.

most cases however you gotta pay up front bc alot of stores are just distributors
