Ordering Parts Online
Like many, I've ordered a lot of parts online. However, the wait varies a great deal. Some websites seem more upfront by stating the items are in stock and ready to ship. Others are more vague and seem to have nothing in stock, wait for your credit card to be approved, and then order the parts from Japan or parts unknown. The process not only adds time to the wait, but adds significantly to the costs, especially when you could go direct to the dealer if you knew where they were. My question is, "How long should you have to wait for a basic (i.e., not a special order item) purchase placed over the internet?" My most recent order was placed in early December, 2010 and is scheduled to arrive March 16, 2011! Is this too long or standard in your opinion?
I waited six months to get my Mugen Hardtop from bulletproof. I did not mind cause I ended up getting a new S right before I got the top. So waiting ended up being better cause i got to put the top on the new car. They did tell me though that it could take up to a few months, so I knew it would be a while.
For special order parts, i.e. non OEM, I'm sure you are looking at several weeks or months in some cases. I have never waited more than seven working days to receive OEM parts (big or small) from places like Majestic, Handa, etc.
Most JDM parts if no in stock will have a pretty long wait time...most companies when shipping will wait to fill a container prior to shipping...so even if you ordered a small shift knob...it won't be shipped until the total container is full. Or the part can just be back ordered...anything coming from over seas is a crap shoot in time.
