hs2k007,

i apprecaite you stepping up with your comments and supporting the site. (i have no affiliation with pwjdm or the site) but apparently just like you, care about the site and want to make sure we don't bash and that we are fair to vendors who are also supporting the site and making products for the car we love.

HS2K007
Post your opinions and don't let anyone tell you differently
If you don't agree with what he's typing it's not going to stop you from purchasing one or debating his statements.
He didn't bash the product IMO.It's just not worth the money to him and he feels there's alternative routes to get the same benifits.
No disrepect to you HS2K007 but I personally don't agree with your some of your ideas however I'm not going to tell you to stop posting because you haven't been abusive to the thread.
Yes,it is important to support our vendors but it is also important for members to share there opinions and experiences so we can all get a better idea of what we are buying. After all the OP is asking for information stateing he's "not sure what a heat shield is" so everyone should be welcome to contribute and we can weed out the good from the bad together.
Who knows after the debate you might just be able to convince HS2K007 to buy one

I didn't think he did anything wrong. I somewhat agree with him, but also don't as well...if that makes sense.

Yes it makes sense. He brought up a lot of different ideas and different solutions as well so you only agree or disagree with some of them just as I do.

I agree that it's more for bling then for performance
I disagree that a CAI will do the same thing
I agree it's not much heat that is being blocked out
I disagree a DIY carbon layed over an aluminum plate is more worth while then paying for an all carbon peiece with nice aluminum brackets
I agree the factory airbox is already insulated from engine heat.

As for my opinion on this part it looks nice and I have seen it person.
It's much bigger then the Ztec which it is based off of and brackets are nice CNCed pieces of anodized aluminum.
I would consider this a bling part with minimal functionality but I think the price is fair

If I personally want to block engine heat from my intake strictly for performance gains I would wrap my intake with aerospace 800 degree heat deflecting gold foil which some will say doesn't look nice and cost about the same if not more to do an entire intake.

I sprayed my Injen CAI with black 500 degree engine paint, then wrapped it in DEI 1500 degree heat reflecting tape. Maybe it will cool the intake charge, or maybe I wasted my money and time.?.

I think those heatshields work to a point. But heat is gonna go where heat wants to go. That's why I think a vented hood is a good investment if you are going for substantially cooler under hood temps. But that's just my .02
