I have seen sockets with a plastic insert. The reviews were not good. They stated that they are so large on the outside, that they don't fit many wheels (they are a 22mm socket with a 19mm insert). The reviewers also claimed that the insert would constantly slide out or crack.

I wonder if you could just coat the inside faces of the socket with like a piece of electrical tape on each face, or something similar. Maybe buy the next size up socket and line the inside of it with something soft.
